The French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs established the Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Program to help French higher education institutions attract top foreign students to enroll in their masters and PhD programs.
This scholarship gives opportunity to the future foreign decision-makers of the private and public sectors, in priority areas of study, and encourages candidates up to 25 years old from developing countries at master’s level, and applicants up to 30 years old from developing and industrialized countries at PhD level.
The Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Program in France may be used only for academic work performed in France, except in certain cases involving internships and exchange periods.
The Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Program in France has two components:
- The master’s component which offers 12 to 36 months of funding to help scholarship holders earn a master’s-level degree.
- The doctoral part which offers about 12 months of doctoral research in France as part of a joint doctoral program.
Worth of an Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Program in France
- The program trains future foreign decision-makers in the private and public spheres in priority areas of study and attract candidates from developing countries to French master’s programs level and candidates from industrialized and developing countries to French doctoral programs., as detailed further on.
- The Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Program in France is not responsible for the cost of language courses.
- Awardees performing an internship/exchange will continue to enjoy their scholarship worth only if the internship/exchange is compulsory and is described in the description of the degree for which the scholarship was awarded, and does not fall outside the dates stated for the scholarship. In other cases, the scholarship is suspended for the duration of the internship/exchange.
- A timetable of scholarship periods will be made and submitted to Campus France at the start of the first period. If this timetable is modified after the first period, the awardee will notify Campus France of the new dates at least two months before the start of the next period.
- The scholarship consists of a monthly allowance of €1,181 (a maintenance allowance of €1,031 plus a stipend of €150).
- Scholars are also qualified for round-trip international air travel and international air travel between the awardee’s home country and France.
- Each scholar awardee has one year from the end of the scholarship to take advantage of the return trip benefit.
- Candidates will also benefit from train travel within France.
- There is also reimbursement of about €50 of the cost of travel via taxi or public transportation from the airport or train station to the first study location.
- Please note that any suspension of the scholarship payments warrants a suspension of all benefits. Also note that tuition charges are not covered by the Eiffel Program. The participating educational institutions, whose international visibility is enhanced by the Eiffel program are expected to provide awardees with the best possible financial support.
Eligibility for an Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Program in France
- This Program is reserved for non-French nationals so candidates with two nationalities of which one is French are not eligible.
- Applicants for the master’s component must be 25 or under at the time of the 2022 competition while applicants for the doctoral component must be 30 or under at the time of the 2022 competition.
- Any candidate nominated by more than one institution will not be qualified.
- The Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Program in France are for students who wants to apply in a master’s-level program in France (including at a school of engineering) and for doctoral candidates. Only programs which are recognized by the French government are qualified.
- Scholars who have once received an Eiffel master’s scholarship are not eligible to receive another at the master’s level.
- When selecting non-French-speaking candidates, institutions should make sure that the candidates’ language skills meet the requirements of the academic program.

Application Deadline
The application deadline for the Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Program in France is 7 January 2022. Results will also be announced in the beginning of April so as to allow students applying to other scholarship programs to learn early on whether they have been selected for an Eiffel scholarship.
