In this article, we will explain more about the scholarship, its worth, eligibility and application process.
The Echidna Global Scholars Program intent to strengthen the capacity of local leaders to drive evidence-based change in girls’ education in low- and middle-income countries all over the world.
During a six-month Fellowship at Brookings Institution, the students pursue individual research focused on improving learning opportunities and life results for girls and young women in LMICs, develop their leadership and proof literacy skills, build large knowledge on gender and global education issues, and enlarge their impact capabilities and pathways.
The Brookings Institution, often referred to as Brookings, is an American research group which was established in 1916 on Think Tank Row in Washington, D.C. It conducts research and education in the social sciences, primarily in economics (and tax policy), governance, foreign policy, global economy, metropolitan policy, and economic development.
The institution stated objective is to provide innovative and practical recommendations that advance three wide goals: strengthen American democracy; foster the economic and social welfare security.
However, after completion of the Fellowship, the students transition to the Echidna Alumni Network, where they continue to receive support and guidance to enhance their significant, sustained, and collective influence on girls’ education in LMICs and on the broader global girls’ education ecosystem.
The Echidna Global Scholars Program has hosted ten cohorts of fellows since its inception in 2012 and it also serve an alumni network of 35 scholars from 20 different countries.
An academic analysis of congressional records from 1993 to 2002 found that Brookings Institution was referred to by conservative politicians almost as frequently as liberal politicians, earning a score of 53 on a 1–100 scale, 100 representing the most liberal score. The same study also found Brookings Institution to be the most frequently cited think tank by the U.S. media and politicians.
